DISCOVER YOGA NIDRA
An Invitation to Turn Inward
Guided meditation, supported comfort and time for stillness.
Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation practice traditionally associated with deep rest and conscious awareness. Often described as yogic sleep, it invites you to explore the space between wakefulness and sleep through a structured sequence of verbal guidance.
Unlike movement-based forms of yoga, this practice places meditation at its centre. A comfortable, supported position allows you to listen, observe and experience the guidance without unnecessary physical effort.
At Orenna Wellness, private Yoga Nidra in Inverness begins with gentle preparatory movement and breath awareness. An extended guided meditation follows, creating an opportunity to explore stillness at your own pace.
Before your appointment, we consider your positioning, comfort and sensory preferences. These details inform the preparation of an environment suited to your individual experience.
You do not need to remain completely still, achieve a particular meditative state or experience rest in a prescribed way.
An opportunity to turn inward, without expectation.
The Guided Experience
The Practice of Conscious Rest
Yoga Nidra follows a structured approach to guided meditation, with individual comfort and choice at the centre of the experience.
The session begins with time to settle into a suitable position. Bolsters, blankets, cushions and other supports help create a comfortable arrangement for the meditation.
You may choose to introduce a personal intention before moving into gentle breath awareness and guided attention through the body. Sharing this intention is entirely optional.
Depending on the approach, the meditation may include awareness of sensations, imagery and other traditional elements of Yoga Nidra.
Rather than concentrating intensely or attempting to control your thoughts, simply listen and follow the guidance in a way that feels appropriate.
Periods of wakefulness, drowsiness or sleepiness may arise. None represents a required outcome, and you remain free to adjust your position whenever necessary.
A gradual conclusion allows time to reconnect with your surroundings before returning to comfortable movement.
Awareness, guidance and individual comfort.

QUESTIONS
Questions About Yoga Nidra
Do I need previous yoga or meditation experience?
No previous experience is necessary. Your session includes individual guidance throughout, so you do not need to memorise a sequence or know how to meditate before attending.
Will I have to lie on the floor?
No. Although Yoga Nidra often takes place lying down, alternative positions are available. Bolsters, blankets and cushions can provide additional support. Depending on your requirements, we can also explore a seated or otherwise supported arrangement. Please mention any positioning concerns during your consultation.
What if I fall asleep during the meditation?
Drowsiness is common during Yoga Nidra, and some people may fall asleep. There is no need for concern if this happens. Remaining awake is equally acceptable. The experience does not depend on whether you sleep or maintain conscious awareness throughout.
Will I have to remain completely still?
No. You may adjust your position whenever necessary. We will explore suitable support before beginning, but your comfort takes priority over maintaining complete stillness.
Will I be asked to share personal thoughts or emotions?
No. A personal intention may form part of the meditation, but sharing it is entirely optional. You can also choose not to use an intention. Afterwards, you are welcome to reflect privately, journal or simply enjoy a quiet moment.
What if guided imagery or certain meditation techniques do not feel comfortable?
Please share any preferences or concerns during your consultation, if you wish. We can explain the proposed approach, consider suitable adaptations and offer alternatives where appropriate. You remain free to pause or discontinue any element of the practice at any time.
Can I continue Yoga Nidra at home?
Following your appointment, you receive personalised electronic practice notes with guidance and practical suggestions from your session. These provide a reference for continuing suitable elements of your practice independently. They do not replace a full guided audio recording unless one is specifically provided.
