A NEW CHAPTER
Moving to the United Kingdom opened a new chapter — an opportunity to experience different cultures, encounter new perspectives and discover other ways of understanding the world.
During this period, yoga began to take a more meaningful place in everyday life. Alongside meditation and an enduring interest in communication and human behaviour, it offered another way to explore movement, stillness and the connection between body and mind.
Gradually, these influences began to come together, shaping an understanding that each of us experiences movement, communication and rest differently.
The foundations of what would eventually become Orenna had begun to form.
UNDERSTANDING DIFFERENCE
A growing awareness of neurodivergence opened another dimension — a different way of experiencing and interpreting the world.
As this understanding developed, sensory preferences, communication and individual differences took on new significance. It became increasingly clear that the same approach cannot work for everyone.
Gradually, this understanding began to influence the foundations of Orenna: recognising the individual first, then considering what may support them best.
A CHANGE OF DIRECTION
Stepping away from a long-established career in biomedical science opened a different path. It also created space for yoga, meditation and mindfulness to move towards deeper study and professional practice.
Alongside this transition, further study in mental health and wellbeing broadened the understanding of the mind and human behaviour. Meanwhile, observation, research, quality and evidence remained valuable influences from the scientific world.
Gradually, these different disciplines began to connect. Their combined influence helped establish one of Orenna’s foundations: a considered approach where professional knowledge, evidence and practice inform one another.
DEEPENING THE PRACTICE
Professional development became increasingly focused and specialised. Restorative Yoga, Yin Yoga, Yoga Nidra, Prenatal Yoga and Adaptive practice developed alongside mindfulness, coaching and neurolinguistics.
As these disciplines came together, they deepened the understanding of movement, rest, attention, communication and wellbeing.
Gradually, a more integrated approach emerged — one that draws from different disciplines with purpose, while keeping the individual at its centre. These principles would become fundamental to Orenna.
THE HIGHLANDS
The Scottish Highlands brought another dimension to Orenna — a deeper connection with place, nature and the changing rhythms of light, weather and season.
Gradually, the landscape inspired a greater awareness of how surroundings can influence rest, stillness and the senses.
Place became more than a setting. It became part of the experience.
ORENNA TAKES FORM
Over time, different influences began to come together: practice, evidence, individual understanding, rest, environment and choice.
From these foundations, Orenna Wellness began to take form — not as a conventional yoga studio, but as a private and considered approach to restorative practice. Rather than asking people to fit a predetermined experience, Orenna would begin with the individual.
From this thinking, a defining principle emerged: Every experience is uniquely yours.
ORENNA TODAY
Orenna Wellness is now a private yoga and wellness studio in Inverness, bringing together the influences that have shaped its story.
Restorative Yoga, Yin Yoga, Yoga Nidra, Prenatal Yoga and Adaptive practice sit within a wider approach where guidance, environment, sensory preferences and choice work together.
Here, rest is not simply a pause. It is approached with intention, curiosity and care — with space to listen, adapt and discover what feels right for each person.
Tradition is respected. Evidence is considered. Experience remains individual.
